The government could not be bothered with the directive on energy efficiency in construction, the Labour Party spokesman on the environment, Leo Brincat said yesterday.
He said legal notice 238 of 2006, which came into force in 2007, laid down that every development should be in line with "minimum energy efficiency standards".
Nevertheless, Mr Brincat said the government had failed to maintain its promise to introduce energy-efficient measures in the sector, increasing the chances of being penalised by the EU.
