Persons with a disability and their families yesterday donated blood at the Centru Hidma Socjali, in Sta Venera, as one of the events marking the European Year of Disabled People.

Programme coordinator Eugene Galea said the event was aimed at showing that disabled people could give to society, rather than the more usual scenario of being takers.

He said the blood bank had been pleasantly surprised by the turnout.

The event was organised by the National Commission Persons with Disability in coordination with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta blood bank.
