As a resident of Kappara, which falls under the San Ġwann local council, I would like to protest strongly against the recent removal of two green skips from Buqrajq Street.
The local council recently stated that the removal of skips would be in prominent residential areas where they are an eyesore. To the very contrary of this, may I stress that the above mentioned street can almost be called a private road with 48 residences, all of whom now leave their garbage bags outside to the feasting of cats and rats alike, since this area is very green with trees and so on.
I called the local council and they informed me that it was recently decided to adopt door-to-door collection of garbage bags. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the grey bags would be collected, the rest of the days the normal black garbage bags would be picked up.
I can't for the life of me imagine why such a clean, tidy system has been changed to cause a lot of filth and inconvenience. May I add that the skips just outside Minister George Pullicino's residence in the road parallel to the one mentioned (more of a main road) are still there!
Why change a good system? Mind boggling!
