Disappointed gymnasts

I am a member of the Malta Gymnastics National team and also a member of Gymstars Club team. Although injured, I took part in the try-out for the Island Games. The top four gymnasts were selected. It was very unfortunate that a fellow gymnast was also injured and was not able to finish the try-out but in gymnastics the only thing that matters is how you perform on the day.

I believe that the try-out was done fairly with six qualified judges, from all different clubs. Even in the highest level competitions, winners are chosen based on their performance on the day, not on how many difficult skills they can do. All we can do is accept the results and aim higher next time.

I think it is a great injustice that no Maltese gymnasts will have the opportunity to go to the Island Games in Crete.
