Discrimination at the bank

I recently closed a bank account to reopen another with a different bank as I was not happy with the service of the previous bank.

I went along to the new bank with the appropriate documentation. To my disgust I was made to feel like a criminal. I was ridiculed as an account could not be opened for me because my identity card number ends with a "P".

I am a Maltese citizen, have dual nationality and also hold a Maltese passport. I own property here and have resided in Malta for the last 16 years. As Malta is now a member of the European Union this sort of discrimination should not be tolerated.

In other EU countries this sort of discrimination is criminal.
