The General Workers' Union has registered a dispute with the Management and Personnel Office over Maltapost workers.
The GWU is seeking a declaration from the government that the employees would be able to go back to the civil service if they were to be made redundant.
The union said that failing a reply, it would resort to industrial action.
The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday gave further indications that it too could take industrial action at Maltapost.
In a letter to Maltapost's chief executive, the UHM's section secretary in charge of the postal workers, Joe Morana, said the union was prepared to resort to action because the management had failed to give it information about the company's restructuring plans, which would make 266 workers redundant.
The union accused the management of dragging its feet and undermining the union's efforts to make progress over pending industrial issues.
