A 62-year-old British diver resident in St Paul's Bay died this afternoon after finding himself in difficulties while swimming in Mistra Bay.

The police said the incident happened shortly before 4 p.m.

People on the scene heard the diver calling for help and called an ambulance. The man was taken to hospital but lost his life.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.

This was the second diving incident in as many days. Yesterday, a diver from Fgura suffered problems while swimming off Marsaxlokk. He is receiving hospital treatment.
