Opposition leader Joseph Muscat, addressing a national conference on marriage, stated that if elected to office, he would personally introduce a bill in Parliament legalising divorce.

A few days earlier, in an interview with Labour deputy leader Toni Abela, on TVM, it transpired that Dr Abela had spoken in favour of abortion in certain situations.

A few days later, Dr Abela made another statement saying that he is against abortion in all circumstances.

So far nothing has been said about euthanasia.

All over the world, these three subjects were legalised one after the other. First divorce, 'for the benefit of society', then abortion 'under certain conditions' and, third, euthanasia 'for the relief of the patient'.

After a few years these conditions were lifted, and divorce, abortion and euthanasia became available on demand.

Is this going to happen in Malta? Is there a single country in the world where divorce has helped to solve family problems? Do we admit that divorce has ruined the economy of many countries?

I admire Dr Muscat for his sincerity and for clearly stating what he is prepared to do for the family if his party is in power. We have to learn exactly what is the meaning of divorce, abortion, and euthanasia and save Malta from the ruin that has befallen other countries.
