I think Fr Anton Gouder (June 24) misses the point in respect to Charles Sammut's letter (June 16).

It is not that husbands and wives are not killed or murdered by family members where divorce is legal but, when it happens, it usually happens in the marriage when incompatible differences reach a climax.

What Mr Sammut meant, I would presume, was that if the mother was able to divorce her husband or even separate from him, instead of being advised to stay with him by a priest, the situation would not have deteriorated to such an extent whereby it culminated in homicide.

In my opinion, a minimum essential qualification required for a "marriage counsellor" is to be married and a parent. After all, if I have never dived I would not be able to teach someone how to!
