Gozo SPCA Animal Welfare Officer Peter Camilleri rescued a starving Red Setter X Spaniel from the depths of Wied il-Ghasri on Thursday by clambering down the steep sides of the valley, the SPCA said.

Access via the steps was impossible because of the pounding seas.

The dog had been reported as trapped down the valley for some time.

Gozo CPD personnel were on hand to lend assistance.

The dog, found in a state of near collapse, probably through lack of food, was passed man to man up the valley side.

Once at the top, Bobby, as Peter named him, wolfed down a tin of dog food and after a rest regained enough strength to walk to the rescue van. He is now recovering at Gozo SPCA Centre. Anybody having information about the dog should contact Gozo SPCA - mob 99807067.
