Fr Gustavo Gutierrez OP, best known for his support for the poor in Latin America, will deliver the keynote speech during the Discern Annual Lecture at the Radisson SAS Hotel, St George's Bay, on November 11 at 7 p.m.
His book, A Theology of Liberation, has caused a major shift in the way many Christians all over the world practised their faith.
Fr Gutierrez had called attention to the poor in Latin America and challenged fellow Christians to participate actively in changing the economic and political systems that fostered social injustice.
His book became the theological manifesto of the liberation movement that gained strength in the 1970s under leaders who included Archbishop Romero of El Salvador, who was murdered while celebrating Mass in 1980.
