For the second consecutive year, the Don Bosco Oratory organised a summer club for 230 children aged five to 12 in July and August.
The club was co-ordinated by oratory director Fr Effie Masini and some 60 helpers and animators gave their contribution to the initiative.
The club met three times a week. The children would hear Mass in the oratory chapel, and later participate in several activities, including sport, games, drama, dance, painting, clay modelling and crib making. Story-telling sessions were held for the younger children. There were outings to Malta and trips to Gozo's beaches.
Towards the end of the club, the children staged a variety show of drama, song and dance at the oratory. A pizza party for the children and their parents was held afterwards. The variety show was staged again at Xlendi Bay as part of the celebrations to mark the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The summer club ended with a Mass celebrated by Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi, who encouraged the children to make the best of such activities that help in their formation. He thanked the volunteers, many of whom where young people, who dedicated their summer holidays to the club.
After Mass, the children watched a film about their patron, Don Bosco.
