Maltco Lotteries Ltd has presented a donation of €12,000 to the Malta Community Chest Fund.
The money was given to President George Abela by Mario Camilleri, a member of Maltco's board of directors in the presence of general director Mario Cassar.
Mr Camilleri said the donation underscored the need for continuous support of the MCCF's "sterling work throughout the year rather than just during fund raising events".
Maltco said its operation of the National Lottery since June 2004 also enabled the generation of significant funds to the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund. Over €4 million were raised for the fund, which falls under the remit of the Ministry of Finance, till the end of November 2009.
Since starting operations, Maltco said that its activity had generated nearly €90 million in revenue to the government by way of initial and ongoing licence fees and taxes with over 900 people involved in the operation on a full-time or part-time basis.
Local entrepreneurs own 27 per cent of Maltco Lotteries' shares, the rest belonging to Intralot SA, a leading supplier of integrated gaming and transaction processing systems, innovative game content and sports betting management to State-licensed gaming organisations worldwide. At present such organisations can be found in over 50 countries in all five continents.
