Michael Mifsud had double cause for celebration yesterday as Coventry City progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Millwall in front of 17,268 fans at the Ricoh Arena.

The diminutive Malta striker extended his prolific scoring run in the FA Cup when hitting the Sky Blues' winning goal seven minutes into the second half after Millwall's Jay Simpson had cancelled out Stephen Hughes's early opener.

Mifsud's goal, a close-range shot following a melee in the Millwall box, also earned him the Man of the Match accolade as the Malta striker again caught the eye with an energetic second half display.

Describing his goal as the easiest of the season, Mifsud was delighted that Coventry had kept their Cup dream alive after a difficult encounter.

"It was a hard game," Mifsud, who was replaced by Leon Best a minute from the end of the game, told The Sunday Times. "Millwall played well and gave us a tough challenge.

"Mine is a game by game approach but I'm definitely having a great time in the FA Cup. May be it is because I'm playing in the competition for the first time in my career and the FA Cup has a special aura about it.

"As for my goal I think it was the easiest I have scored this season. In the second half we raised our game and our hard work has been rewarded."

Mifsud's winner, his 16th goal in all competitions this season, has also enhanced Coventry's prospects of drawing another big name in the next round of the FA Cup after their magnificent 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the previous round.

Back in September, Coventry also pulled off a memorable win in the League Cup when Mifsud struck twice to send Manchester United crashing out of the competition.

Mifsud relishes the prospect of taking on another top team in the next round.

"It's always a great experience to play against the big clubs," Mifsud remarked. "I am looking forward to another memorable FA Cup night in the next round."

More giant-killing heroics by Coventry would surely bolster their hopes of making further progress in the Cup but Mifsud refuses to look too far ahead.

"We need to proceed with caution and humility because it is hard to advance in the FA Cup what with so many strong sides still in it," the former Lillestroem striker commented.

"That said, football is so exciting because it can be unpredictable."
