Foreign Minister Michael Frendo confirmed that talks on a double taxation agreement with the United States are continuing.
He told Leo Brincat (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question that the issue was first raised during the meeting which then Foreign Minister John Dalli had with US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
The issue was then taken in at a meeting at Malta's embassy in Washington between Maltese ambassador John Lowell and Glyn T. Davies, deputy assistant secretary for European Affairs at the State Department on August 19, 2004.
The ambassador had another meeting on September 13 with Kathleen Allegrone, director for European and Regional Affairs at the State Department and Jane Zimmerman, deputy director.
Dr Frendo said that on October 6 he discussed the subject with former senator Mirch Bayh.
Last year, Mr Lowell had two meetings with US Treasury Officials on the issue.
The last double taxation agreement was signed with Iceland last month.
