While controversy continues in the comments section following complaints by a cyclist who was injured when her bicycle got stuck in a road grating in Gzira, a passenger on a Ford Transit van has reported how the van was damaged when it fell into a deep culvert because the grate was not in place at Ghadira.
Dorothy Falzon told timesofmalta that she was disgusted over the way how a van she was travelling in crashed into what looked like a culvert at the Ghadira Road last week because the grating was not in place.
The van was being driven towards Marfa at the time. It suffered damage to the driver's door frame and a rear mudguard.
The incident, she said, could have had far worse consequences.
Cyclist Alison Zammit Endrich was injured recently when a wheel of her bicycle got stuck in a drain grate in Gżira whose slots lie parallel to the direction of traffic rather than at right angles.
She fell from the bike and suffered a broken jaw.
