Glitz and glamour graced Ta' Qali during the 10th edition of the Malta Fashion Awards on Saturday night, organised by fashion aficionado Adrian Mizzi.

Models, hair stylists and make-up artists invaded the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in a show that lasted over three hours and kept the crowd riveted as gorgeous local and international designs swept up and down the runway.

Italian artist Alfredo Nocera wowed the audience by creating stunning evening dresses by simply using an array of fabrics... and no sewing machine. Renowned local designers Charles and Ron launched their new collection.

An annual fashion event had been Mr Mizzi's dream. Fourteen years ago he set out to organise one, and after having spent months creating a portfolio of cuttings showing local designs and pictures taken by local photographers, he went to Italy to get an opinion on the local fashion industry and advice on organising and event. But he was turned down.

"I was told the only way for local photographers to make any money was to sell their camera," he said.

Unfazed, Mr Mizzi persisted in his endeavours and is now attracting international brands to take part. In fact, Jolidon Prelude and Blaumax were featured during Saturday's show.

Lana Xuereb won an award for upcoming model, David Camenzuli won the male model award, Stephanie Hodgkins, the female model award, Brian Grech was awarded the fashion photographer award and Nicola Powell got the fashion make-up artist award.

Outstanding contribution awards were presented to Toni & Guy, Double M, Thomas, Joy Gatt, Christine Pillow, Diane Stafrace and David, Camenzuli.
