We never had excellent tap water in Mosta, but it has deteriorated drastically over the past months.
Recently we even had to endure frequent water cuts, so that 1,000 litres of water, are not sufficient to last until the water supply is back to normal.
This is mostly evident in the area of Sta Margerita, where the taste of tap water is so bad that it is not even bearable to wash one's teeth with.
I spoke to several of my neighbours, and other people who live in the area, and heard stories like: a goldfish I bought for my daughter, died within two days; or, our tap water comes directly from the sea; or, the R.O. salesman who, after testing the water said that it was not worth installing the apparatus because it will still not be filtered sufficiently. Some attributed most of the recent gastric flu cases we had in the area to the impurities the WSC is supplying us with.
On September 2, I filed a complaint with Mosta local council and after a few days someone from WSC phoned me and asked if I had a personal main supply since no one else had complained. I chuckled at this comment, and he promised to send a pharmacist to do some tests, who is yet to show up.
I hope, and expect that whoever at the Water Services Corporation is responsible for the supply of tap water in our area, does something to improve the situation really fast.
One last question: Are there EU standards on the quality and taste of tap water?
