A 59-year old motorist driving through Cospicua on Saturday night was held-up, taken hostage and released after handing over his cash.

The incident took place in the area known as San Gwann T'Ghuxa at 2.30 a.m. as the man was on his way back home, the police said.

They said a car suddenly blocked the man's path and two armed and hooded men charged out and demanded money. The man tried to reverse his way out of the situation, but to no avail.

He was pulled out of the car, pushed into the robbers' vehicle and taken to Luqa, where he was forced to hand over the cash. The police said the haul amounted to less than Lm500.

He was released with no injuries and walked to the police station to report the case.

The robbers got away. Their car was found later in Zebbug. It had been set on fire. It had been stolen from Mosta a few days earlier, police said.

The police are investigating.
