Ms N. Abela highlighted the fact that a large number of learner drivers fail the recently introduced driving test.

In view of the fact that over 80 per cent pass the theory test and only 32-35 per cent obtain a total pass first time out, I would sincerely suggest that drivers correlate theory with practice.

It's one thing seeing a mini roundabout on paper but driving the practical test it is vital to not only understand the 'give way' rule but imperative not to drive over the roundabout (unless in a heavy vehicle which may not be able to negotiate the junction without driving over or touching upon the roundabout).

All road signs and carriageway markings must be observed and obeyed.

Speed must be appropriate to the conditions prevailing during the test. Speed limit signs denote the maximum (or in the case of blue and white signs the minimum) speed that vehicles may proceed at.

During the test it is wise to drive at the prevailing speed of other traffic (within the legal limits of course), and it should be an imperative to keep two seconds behind the vehicle ahead.

Transcribe theory into practice and far more or you will pass first time out.
