An Egyptian man was yesterday charged with drug importation and conspiracy.

Ali Abd El Moaty Mahmoud El Madbouly, 42, was also charged with the possession of some 1.5 kilogrammes of cannabis resin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use and the possession of three passports on and before August 22.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.

Dr Richard Sladden was appointed legal aid for the defendant.
