A Gozitan man was yesterday charged with forming part of a conspiracy to traffic in ecstasy pills.

Stephen Caruana, 37, of Marsalforn, pleaded not guilty to the possession of ecstasy pills and cannabis resin in circumstances denoting they were not for his personal use.

He was also charged with conspiring to deal in ecstasy pills and dealing in cannabis resin on and before April 9, 1998.

Caruana was arraigned under arrest but Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona ruled the arrest was unjustified and annulled it. He however bound Caruana to appear in court under a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Police Inspector Abraham Zammit prosecuted.

Dr José Herrera and Dr David Camilleri appeared for the defendant.
