Drugs, stolen items found in roadblock

Armed Forces personnel found drugs, stolen items and a revolver on Friday night during a roadblock in the centre of the island.

During a physical search on one female passenger, a piece of cannabis resin was found in her wallet, while in another vehicle two syringes were found, one of which was used.

Simultaneously, a suspiciously large amount of new items were also found in the boot of one of the vehicles, the AFM said. The suspected stolen items included several brand-named shoes, cosmetics, belts, wallets, perfumes, blades, and wrist watches, as well as a large mallet and several other suspicious tools. A large-calibre revolver round was also found in the same car.

A 29-year-old man from Rabat and a 31-year-old woman from Mosta were detained in connection with the finds.

In another case, a 31-year old man from Sliema was observed throwing an item out of a vehicle window as he approached the AFM check-point. A search in the area yielded two blocks of suspected cannabis resin wrapped separately in foil. The apprehended individuals were subsequently handed over to Rabat police for further questioning.
