Drugs suspect arrested after acting suspiciously outside police station
A car was observed picking up passengers and dropping them off a few metres away
A motorist who acted suspiciously near St Julian's police station on Sunday was arrested and found to be carrying a drug sachet he was about to hand to another man , a court was told on Monday.
The 22-year-old Serbian driver pleaded not guilty to drug possession when he was arraigned.
Prosecutors explained that Drug Squad officers on patrol had noticed a car picking up people, leaving and then dropping them off a few metres away.
The vehicle was monitored as it picked up another man in Triq San Ġorġ and then stopped opposite St Julian's police station.
A search turned up a sachet which was about to be handed to the passenger. The driver was arrested on the spot.
No request for bail was made.
Police Inspector Francesco Mizzi and lawyer Nadia Ciappara from the AG's office prosecuted.
Lawyers Shazoo Ghaznavi and Jessica Formosa appeared for the accused.
