A man has been put on probation for three years and banned from driving for three months after he admitted to driving while drunk and assaulting a police officer.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro heard Raymond Gatt plead guilty to driving dangerously, damaging a car, assaulting a police sergeant and damaging his uniform in Zejtun on October 10, 2004.

Magistrate Lofaro bound Mr Gatt not to approach the officer for a year against a Lm100 fine in default.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for Mr Gatt.
