Drunk tourist assaults Qatari diplomat, and gets more than he bargained for

The incident happened outside Malta airport

A 32-year-old man who admitted to injuring a Qatari diplomat outside Malta's airport has been conditionally discharged for three years.

Jordan Boucaud, a French national, also admitted to being drunk in public, threatening the diplomat and slightly injuring a medical officer.  

It is understood that the accused and the victim both flew to Malta on the same plane.

The diplomat bumped into Boucaud at the airport. Boucaud confronted the victim and punched him in the face near the taxi stand of Malta airport.

The victim reacted quickly, headlocking the accused, pinning him to the ground and kneeling on his neck.

The Frenchman was given a conditional discharge for three years and warned against committing any other crime during the operative period of the sentence.

Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia presided.

AG lawyer Valentina Cassar prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Roxanne Tabone. Lawyer Charles Mercieca assisted the accused. Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for the victim.
