Dubai Holding it was very keen on seeing the Smart City project move ahead and invest further in Malta, the government said today.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat discussed further investment by Dubai Holding in Malta during a meeting with Dubai Holding Chairman Abdulla Al Habbai and CEO Edris Al Rafi in Dubai earlier this week.
The meeting was also attended by Khalid Al Malik from Dubai Holding and Smart City Malta CEO Deepak Padmanabhan.
The Prime Minister said the government is looking forward for Smart City Malta to keep investing. He added that the government's project to relocate the Institute of Tourism Studies, which will include a hotel, will inject new life to Smart City.
Both sides agreed that they are committed to the project and Dubai Holding would evaluate further investments in Malta.
Earlier this year, SmartCity submitted fresh plans to change the original 2007 master plan, aimed at increasing drastically the height limitation in various areas of the project, particularly those concerning residential and commercial zones.
In Dubai, Dr Muscat also took part in a convention to promote Malta's cash-for-passports scheme, a visit which was described as ill-timed in the wake of Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder.
