Duo, accused of grievously injuring woman granted bail
Because the case is based on CCTV footage, the court agreed to bail, as there was no witness tampering risk.
Two men accused of grievously injuring a woman were granted bail on Saturday.
Keith Debono, 40, and Saddam Hussein Debras, 18, appeared before a magistrate’s court and were accused over alleged acts against Shanelle Farrugia.
Debras faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm by tripping Farrugia, who broke her ankle as a result.
Debono is accused of complicity with Debras and of being a recidivist.
The two are also charged with harassing and threatening another man, Salaman Ahmed Jamaa.
On Saturday, the court heard how the alleged crime was caught on CCTV.
Because the prosecution’s evidence and case are based on the footage, the court agreed to a request for bail as there were no fears of witness tampering.
The case dates back to the evening of June 3 in Triq San Vinċenz, Marsa.
The court heard how CCTV indicated that the two men arrived on site in a car before entering into an argument with Farrugia and Ahmed Jamaa that escalated.
Luigi Gulia, on behalf of the Attorney General, and Inspector Sarah Kathleen Zerafa are prosecuting.
Jacon Magri and Arthur Azzopardi are representing the defence.
