The Greek presidency of the European Union has launched a new e-Vote questionnaire on the controversial issue of immigration and asylum, coinciding with the Greek presidency conference "Managing migration for the benefit of Europe" currently being held in Athens.
The new e-Vote tackles numerous issues raised by immigration and asylum in the EU and aims to seek the views of EU citizens on these questions, asking them for example to assess whether they see immigrants as beneficial to the EU and how they judge the EU's policy in this regard.
Ten votes are currently active: the EU Today, the EU's Role in the World, the Future of the EU, the Lisbon Agenda, EU Enlargement, the War in Iraq, EU Drug Policy, the Environment and Sustainable Development, EU-US Relations and Immigration and Asylum.
Additional polls will be added over the course of the Greek presidency.
The issue of immigration and asylum will be debated at the Thessaloniki European Council on June 20-21, and the results of this e-Vote and others will be presented by George Papandreou, Greek Foreign Minister, to the heads of state and government.
More than 150,000 people have so far participated in e-Votes.
