The Earl and Countess of Wessex are in Malta on a short visit.

They were hosted on board the Royal Navy helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious yesterday.

This morning they visited the Helen Keller resource centre to mark its 20th anniversary.

Prince Edward unveiled a commemorative plaque and thanked the staff for their service.

This afternoon the Countess of Wessex  presented ambulances to St John Ambulance Brigade.

The Countess of Wessex, as Grand President of St John Ambulance in the Priory of England and the Islands, today presented two ambulances to St John Ambulance Malta.

The ambulances were donated by the East Midlands Ambulance Service in the UK and were brought to Malta by on board RFA Mounts Bay.

After the presentation, the ambulances were blessed by the two St John Ambulance Chaplains – the Chancellor of the St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Can. Simon Godfrey and the vice parish priest of Christ the King parish church (Paola), Fr Vincent Deguara.

They will also attend an event of the President's Award Scheme (formerly the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme).
