More than 59% of early voters cast their vote so far

Voting open at two polling stations until 10pm

Updated at 3.42pm with first turnout

A total of 59.2% of people who were entitled to vote early did so by Saturday afternoon, the Electoral Commission said.

It said that as of 2pm, a total of 9,722 of the 16,402 registered voters had cast their vote.

Early voters started casting the first votes of the 2026 general election campaign on Saturday morning.

Voters who will be unable to cast their vote on May 30 and who registered for early voting can cast their vote at two separate polling stations in Malta and Gozo until 10pm on Saturday.

Labour leader Robert Abela and Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg both issued short videos in a final appeal to early voters.

“You know where you stand with us. And you know where we are going together,” Abela said, as he presented Labour as a safe pair of hands. “We are going through major global uncertainty but we’ve always ensure stability in the country.”

Alex Borg said the PN was the country that could give Malta a fresh start.

“People must decide what direction they want to take the country in. Think of your children, of our country’s health, environment, economy and education sectors. Our manifesto addresses all these things. Your vote is your duty.”

Voters registered in Malta can cast their vote at the Vote Counting Complex in Naxxar. Gozo voters can vote at the government farm on Mġarr Road, Xewkija. Anyone casting their vote must present their voting document to do so.
