I fully agree with the views and suggestions expressed by Michael A. Cassar in his letter (October 20).

I have resided in Vajringa Street, Victoria for a good number of decades and can testify to the traffic problems and inconveniences to the public that are created on school days because of the morning and afternoon closure of this important thoroughfare.

Apart from the 8 to 8.30 a.m. closure, which is really creating chaos in this heavily congested area, I also suggest the adoption of the same procedure in the afternoons, namely from 2 to 2.30 p.m.

This afternoon closure in my opinion is far more ridiculous, for to close a street half an hour in advance of the finishing time of Victoria's Primary School is really senseless. School ends by 2.30 p.m. sharp and the street is regularly opened to traffic exactly at this time.

I wonder why the authorities do not follow the procedure exercised in Fortunato Mizzi Street, Victoria, where notwithstanding the fact that thousands of students attend our secondary and upper secondary schools, this main thoroughfare has never been closed to traffic either in the morning or in the afternoons.

On the other hand, because of a police presence both students and vehicles make their way through in a really impeccable way.
