Food Safety Authority issues warning over pesticide in White Fungus packets
The Food Safety and Security Authority on Friday warned that packets of White Fungus should be eaten because it contains the pesticide methomyl.
The authority said the warning refers to the 150g packets of White Fungus by the brand Golden Lion imported from Hong Kong Lot number 20251206_003 with the best before date of July 15, 2028.
“This pesticide is not permitted for use in food products sold within the EU. While eating a contaminated item does not present an immediate health risk, long-term intake of methomyl could lead to health concerns. For this reason, exposure to this substance should be kept as low as possible,” the authority said.
Consumers are advised not to eat the product and either dispose of it or return it to the store from where it was purchased.
