The Malta Tourism Authority is conducting audits in 11 hotels taking part in its eco-certification scheme.

The hotels are the Hilton Malta, Crowne Plaza, L-Imgarr Hotel, Barcelo' Riviera Resort, Grand Hotel Mercure San Antonio, Preluna, Grand Hotel Mercure Selmun Palace, La Vallette Resort, St George's Park, Sunflower and Porto Azzurro.

It is the first time that three-star hotels are taking part in the scheme, set up in October 2002.

Hotels involved in the scheme must show a commitment towards reducing their impact on the environment by diminishing water and energy consumption and managing their waste, as well as other criteria.
