The Victoria Hotel in Sliema has embarked on a series of eco-friendly measures that include waste handling and disposal and the enhancement of the air conditioning system.

Waste is now separated at source and disposed of in a systematic and more hygienic manner.

Similarly, improvements have been made in the systems of disposal for waste oils, dangerous and harmful objects and bulky materials.

Other notable measures provide for the general reduction of paper and paper products, and, where possible, its re-use. Great emphasis has been made on the use of biodegradable items and cleaning materials.

Environment-friendly materials have also been used in the refurbishment of large sections and areas of the hotel.

These and other measures, such as savings on energy and water consumption, have also proved cost effective to the extent that the Victoria Hotel has been able to reduce the cost of a bed night by 33 per cent, general manager Clare Xuereb said.
