Eddie Fenech Adami admitted to hospital
PN says former president in stable condition after 'health complications'
Updated 8.25 pm with PL statement
Former president and prime minister Eddie Fenech Adami has been admitted to hospital, the Nationalist Party said on Tuesday.
The PN said it wished a speedy recovery to Fenech Adami, who earlier on Tuesday was admitted to hospital for observation after suffering health complications.
PN leader Alex Borg made contact with Fenech Adami’s family and was informed of the latest details regarding his condition.
Fenech Adami is in stable condition, the PN said.
Fenech Adami, 92, served as prime minister between 1987 and 1996 and again from 1998 to 2004. He is considered the leading figure in Malta’s road to joining the European Union.
He was appointed president in 2004, a few months after leaving parliament, serving a five-year term.
Fenech Adami is considered one of the most influential leaders in Maltese political history, serving as PN leader since 1977. His son Beppe Fenech Adami still serves as a PN MP.
Prime minister and PL leader Robert Abela also wished Fenech Adami a quick recovery, a Labour Party statement said.
"The PL joins the prime minister in wishing the former president well," the party said.
