I am sure that Joe Galea's letter makes us all think and reflect. Mr Galea considers Dr Fenech Adami as "highly divisive". Was Dr Fenech Adami divisive in 1979 when, while he was in parliament, a number of thugs broke into his private residence, attacked his family and ransacked his house; or in 1981, when he led his party to victory in the general election only to have to face the odd result of "strange" electoral districts; or in 1986, when Raymond Caruana was murdered and Peter Paul Busuttil framed? Thank God Dr Fenech Adami was leader of the Nationalist Party in those days!
I would like to invite everyone to think about Malta in the 1971-1987 period when the political division between "blue" Maltese and "red" Maltese could be felt and touched. After 15 years of Dr Fenech Adami as Prime Minister in Malta we are now learning to accept each other.
Mr Galea tells us that Dr Fenech Adami is all gimmicks. I always thought that the Labour Party was the gimmick champion here. The last one is the nomination of three honourable persons for President.
I am sure the MLP does not really believe any of these persons should truly be President and their nomination was just an act to distract the government. We all remember that when the MLP was in power it chose Anton Buttigieg, Agatha Barbara and Paul Xuereb - three Labour veterans and former ministers - to occupy the presidential seat. Fair enough because the MLP was in power. And the three esteemed citizens did their duty very well.
Dr Fenech Adami is not "all gimmicks". He has been "all victories''.
