Arsenal striker Eduardo has undergone surgery after breaking a leg in Saturday's Premier League match against Birmingham City.

Arsenal said that the Brazilian-born Croatian international was resting in hospital after an operation for a broken leg.

Manager Arsene Wenger has already ruled him out for the rest of the season and possibly much longer, meaning that he will miss the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland in June.

The incident was so horrific that television stations declined to show the replay, although yesterday's News of the World had graphic photographs on its inside pages.

Beckham inspires Galaxy win

David Beckham had a hand in both Los Angeles Galaxy goals as his Major League Soccer side clinched third place in the Pan Pacific Championship with a 2-1 victory over Sydney FC on Saturday.

"It is always good at pre-season to get games in," said Beckham. "You can do all the training you want but your match fitness that comes from games is important."

"The right foot seems to be working," Beckham added. "That is what I do, I get into positions and deliver balls that can help my team."

Japanese side Gamba Osaka won the inaugural competition with an emphatic 6-1 win over MLS side Houston Dynamo.

Kenyon keen to keep star duo

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has reiterated his club's desire to hang on to Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba despite fresh reports linking the pair with moves away from Stamford Bridge.

"Frank has made the comments that he wants to stay. We've both decided we'll put it behind us until the end of the season," Kenyon said. "He is a great player and of course we would like him to see his career out with us.

"Didier was also misquoted and we're not going to talk about that. Didier has got two years left on his contract and there is no reason why he shouldn't remain a Chelsea player."

Rafinha fancies Liverpool move

Brazilian full-back Rafinha has revealed he would be interested in a move to Liverpool.

The Schalke 04 defender is under contract with the German club until 2011 but would relish a summer switch to Anfield.

"Liverpool is a top destination," the 22-year-old said. "If a move would suit Schalke as well as myself, we can discuss it."

Luis Fabiano's family robbed

The family of Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano were robbed at gunpoint in their home last Friday the day after goalkeeper Andres Palop had his house burgled, manager Manolo Jimenez said.

Speaking to reporters after Saturday's 5-0 win over Real Zaragoza, Jimenez said Brazilian Fabiano, who scored a brace on Saturday, had been at training during the robbery while Palop and his family had been asleep when they were burgled.

"The robberies were another obstacle the side have had to overcome. The squad have come together, talked a lot, and we dedicate the win to our families, in particular Luis's," Jimenez said.

Fight mars Coventry victory

Eleven people were arrested after what police claimed was a pre-planned fight between Coventry and Leicester hooligans on Saturday morning.

The brawl broke out before Coventry's home match with the Foxes - which the Sky Blues won 2-0. Police believe the violence in Earlsdon, Coventry, had been planned.

Officers also reported they seized a number of weapons including knives, while one man suffered a minor head injury.

Grant wants director of football

Chelsea manager Avram Grant wants the club to appoint a director of football - the role he filled at Stamford Bridge before succeeding Jose Mourinho.

"It would be easier for me," he was quoted as saying. "There are many things for a coach to do. The director can help him a lot. I know that from my time in that position at Portsmouth."

Ronaldo hints at Milan exit

Ronaldo admitted that if he does return to football, it might not be as a Milan player, the Brazilian said.

The striker is sidelined for a minimum of nine months after undergoing knee surgery and is not taking his San Siro comeback for granted.

"We'll see. If I manage to recover at my best, then Milan are in pole position considering the way they have treated me and how much I am loved here.

"But we will have to wait and see. It is my dream to play for Flamengo, who were my team when I was a young boy, but it all depends on how I recover."

Zamparini rebuffs Amauri talk

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini angrily denied reports that Roma are lining up a £15m offer for Amauri. The Corriere dello Sport newspaper suggested Roma have moved in pole position for the striker.

The club is reportedly willing to hand over £10m cash plus Alessio Cerci.

"Roma know which players in their squad I appreciate. I like striker Mirko Vucinic and midfielder Alberto Aquilani. Only with these elements can we open talks for Amauri," he said.
