Four employees of the Department of Education have been interdicted and cannot perform their duties because of charges of corruption of minors, according to information tabled in parliament by the prime minister.

Dr Fenech Adami said that 29 public officers were under interdiction.

They included 12 policemen facing charges including of attempted murder, drug possession, theft, fraud and misappropriation; four employees at the Education Department accused of corruption of minors; an employee at the Treasury accused of misappropriating public funds; six at the Works Department accused of corruption of minors, murder, drugs and attempted murder; and a customs official accused of importing drugs.

An official at the Department of Social Accommodation has been accused of attempted corruption/destruction of public documents, two employees at the Health Department face charges related to drugs and sexual abuse and two officials at the Customer Services Department face charges on drugs and theft.

Dr Fenech Adami said that one member of the public service who worked at the Water Services Department was dismissed this year after a court found him guilty of accepting money not to do his work properly.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by Dr Adrian Vassallo (MLP).
