In a poor attempt to take political mileage from a difficult situation, Labour MP Evarist Bartolo tries to give readers the impression that the government does not have University students' interests at heart (Talking Point, January 6). This Administration has invested heavily in all levels of education and will continue to do so.
Does Mr Bartolo really think that people will forget that he was the Minister for Education when students' stipends were drastically reduced by the Labour government and that under a Labour government all students were forced to take out a loan in order to pursue their studies?
May I also remind him that under a Labour government there were a measly 800 students attending the University due to the numerus clausus imposed by that infamous regime. Under the Nationalist government the University population exploded and has now topped the 10,000 figure.
