Eight men were detained at vehicle checkpoints manned by the AFM over the weekend after they were found to be in possession of drugs or weapons or they were driving without a licence.

The AFM said that two Maltese aged 27 and 24 were held near Birzebbugia on Saturday after they were found driving without a valid driving licence and vehicle insurance cover. A Somali man was held after he was found in possession of three knives in his vehicle's glove compartment.

Later that same evening, another three Maltese men were found in the vicinity of Cospicua without a valid driving licence and vehicle insurance cover.

On Sunday, another two Maltese , also aged 24 and 27 were arrested for drug possession near Mosta.

All detained individuals were handed over to the police for further investigations.

The vehicle inspections were conducted by the 4th Regiment's Training School.
