Mr Justice Franco Depasquale has been elected by acclamation to fill the post vacated by Judge Patrick Vella on the UN Human Rights Committee for the remainder of the term, which expires on December 31, 2004, the Department of Information said yesterday.

The election took place during the 22nd meeting of states party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, held earlier this week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
