European Mosaic - one but different... living apart but together... many doors but one house... The main ideas behind the project is that students show their monuments and places of interest from a different perspective. This is shown through people and movement and not as static objects/places.
'Monuments' could be their home where they live, or the clubs, discos, pubs are their places of interest. Restaurants, shopping, etc. is our youth's places of interest - although we live in different countries, brand names/restaurants seem to be common to all of our young people.
In the light of all this we can see that there are many differences and so we must understand diversities. Though different countries have different religions, food, habits, transportation, etc., we must understand these diversities and still belong to this one Europe.
Finally we must live with diversities. So, we project how all these differences still make us one Europe. Though different still one...
After a year on the project, during which our homes and our monuments were discovered and exhibited, the second year of this Comenius project opened with a visit to Zabrze, Poland. There the eight participants - Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex, Gozo (the co-ordinating school - represented by the head, Mr Paul Bezzina, Mr Robert Vella, project co-ordinator] and Mr Mario Bugeja, teacher), the schools from Poland, Tenerife, Germany, and two each from Belgium and Italy, met some of the school staff with some students from their schools, to discuss the second part of the project.
This year the two main topics are Transportation and Food. By the end of the year all participants must exhibit a photo exhibition on transport on March 21, 2005, the first day of spring - all schools send various photos of the types of transportation used in their towns to all participants.
A five-minute presentation on transport is also on the agenda, and then students which will meet in Brussels in April, show and present their presentations to the other students. Also a calendar with traditional main dishes (photos and recipes) is to be done by the end of the scholastic year.
Finally a recipe booklet with two main courses (starter, main course and dessert) together with suggestions on beverages is to be prepared by the end of the year.
The presentation, calendar and booklet are being presented at the next meeting in Brussels in April.
