In his article "The great gig on the Granaries" (The Sunday Times, July 13), Wayne Flask wrote that "MEPA had issued a press release stating that organisers had applied for a permit as a precaution without in fact needing to do so." Perhaps, in view of this, MEPA can now explain whether organisers NnG Promotions were still asked to pay a fee. If so, how can MEPA claim that NnG Promotions did not need a permit?

Mr Flask also wrote that he fully understood the frustration of numerous drivers on the way to Valletta for being stuck in the sickeningly hot weather on the way to work, and that the event was foreshadowed by an incessant barrage of polemics and protests about the traffic situation caused by just closing a road in Floriana.

Allow me to point out that, initially, the Floriana council was not consulted as to which roads would be out of bounds for motorists entering Floriana/Valletta. On May 21, we received a copy of the letter sent by the Traffic Management Directorate to Jonastin Zammit, one of the organisers, which referred to which roads would be closed to motorists.

This was a slipshod way of doing things by the Traffic Management Directorate. There was no discussion, but the mere passing on of information to the Floriana council.

One wonders whether this entity, like the Ministry of Transport and Communications before it, was trying to humiliate the Floriana council.
