Emergency responders join forces to distribute food to those in need

This was the sixth year of the initiative

This Christmas saw emergency responders join forces to distribute food supplies to those in need across the country.

Members of Malta’s armed forces, civil protection department, police force, prison service and asylum seekers agency collected and distributed food to children’s homes and centres for victims of domestic violence.

Emergency responders visited the Dar Milja and Dar Sagra Familja centres, Dar San Ġużepp in Ħaż-Żabbar, the Ursuline Sisters in Tal-Pietà and the Peace Laboratory in Ħal Far.

The initiative has become an annual tradition for the emergency services, with the Home Affairs Ministry noting this year was the sixth year the collections and distributions had taken place.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri described the initiative as one “that goes beyond the daily duties of the forces of order”.

“It is clear testimony to the heart and sense of solidarity that these women and men carry with them, not only in protecting the security of the country, but also in protecting the dignity and well-being of those who need our help the most.”

This was not the first collaboration between responders over the festive period; Christmas Eve saw firefighters work in collaboration with the police and armed forces to remove two hazardous pressurised liquid nitrogen canisters from a hotel restaurant.
