Another Enemalta employee was suspended today as investigations into electricity theft through tampering of smart meters continue by the police and the corporation.

Another 10 employees have been suspended since the inquiry started. Two have pleaded guilty in court and been jailed for two years each.

Enemalta said the latest suspension followed further internal inquiries on the basis of information provided by consumers.

The corporation and the police were looking into each case to immediately stop irregularities and ensure that the stolen electricity and related penalties were paid for.

Customers who are aware of any irregularity in their consumption readings have until April 7 to voluntarily regularise their position and avoid further consequences.

Customers who would like to take this option can contact Enemalta on 8007 2245 or reports.emc@enemalta.com.mt

After this deadline, Enemalta said it would act against customers who would have chosen not to rectify their irregularities.
