Epic best for mobile network, GO leads for streaming – MCA
Results follow benchmarking tests in December
Telecomms company Epic emerged as the leading provider for mobile network while GO took the spot for browsing, streaming and online gaming, according to a recent study commissioned by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA).
In a statement, the authority said tests carried out in December showed Epic was the leading provider for voice calls – including phone and WhatsApp calls – followed by Melita.
The provider also led in “data throughput”, closely followed by GO which ranked best for browsing performance, video streaming quality and online gaming, while Epic came in second.
Epic also “stood out for its uniform performance across Malta and Gozo,” the authority said, noting users enjoyed a “stable user experience regardless of location”.
The benchmarking study was carried out by data quality company Systemics-PAB and was designed to provide mobile users with a snapshot of network performance and help the MCA assess whether regulatory measures relating to network performance were needed.
Providers were not informed of the test in advance, the authority noted.
The MCA said the results “offer important insight into the performance of Malta’s mobile network operators, empowering consumers with transparent and data-driven comparisons”.
“Beyond informing public choice, these evaluations act as a driver for continual service enhancement across the sector.”
Further testing is planned for the fourth quarter of this year, it added.
