Eroded Fond Għadir belvedere cordoned off, works to kick off in January

Local council expects reinforcement work to be completed by summer

The area around a belvedere at Fond Għadir in Sliema has been cordoned off so that the eroded rockface is reinforced.

Works to make the structure safe will kick off in January and are expected to be completed before summer, Pierre Portelli, the local council's executive secretary, told Times of Malta.

The rockface underneath the belvedere was naturally eroded over time, and its reinforcement is being taken care of by Public Works.

Separate works, which will meanwhile be overseen by the local council, will be ongoing at the same time, a little bit further up, at the public convenience stalls on Ferro Bay. Portelli said the public convenience works will cost €400,000.
