Erwin Koeman has been handed the task of succeeding Ruud Gullit as coach of Feyenoord, the Rotterdam-based club said.
The 43-year-old Koeman, who has just finished his first season as head coach at RKC Waalwijk, takes over after former Netherlands forward Gullit left the club last week.
In a statement Feyenoord said Koeman, the older brother of former Ajax coach Ronald, was their first choice.
"I am proud that a club like Feyenoord came to me," Koeman told the club's official website.
"It is a fantastic challenge to start working in Rotterdam and it feels good that the management of such a big club has faith in me."
After a playing career at Groningen, PSV Eindhoven and KV Mechelen, Koeman joined the technical staff at PSV before leaving to join Waalwijk before the start of the season.
Feyenoord finished fourth in the Dutch first division this year, 25 points behind champions PSV.
