ETUC misdirects mail again!

Letter addressed to the CMTU is sent to the GWU

The controversy over the leaked letter addressed to the General Workers' Union but mistakenly sent to the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions by the European Trade Union Confederation took a different twist yesterday when a letter addressed to the CMTU was mistakenly sent to the GWU headquarters by the ETUC.

The GWU said that as a responsible union it has resisted the temptation to do what, it claimed, others had done when they decided to leak the letter to the media.

The GWU said that it had passed the letter by hand to CMTU officials.

In a letter to CMTU president Alfred Buhagiar, GWU general secretary Tony Zarb said that although his union had been treated in a completely different manner, the GWU decided to act responsibly and passed on the letter.

Mr Zarb said the union had noted that Mr Buhagiar and CMTU general secretary Charles Magro had published an affidavit denying any involvement in the leaking of the first letter.

However, these officials were still burdened with the responsibility of those officials affiliated with the CMTU, including Union Haddiema Maghudin general secretary Gejtu Vella.

Mr Zarb said Mr Vella had publicly admitted he had spoken about the contents of a document addressed to the GWU.
